The only thing I can add for now is that if you're able to provide one of the documents where this is happening (by replying to the email thread withĭerrick), we can know for sure if this is the cause.įor the benefit of anyone else reading this who'd like to know, this is the issue we believe is the cause here (but we won't know for sure until we see a document): In fact, I've spoken with Derrick, one of our Support Specialists, and I've read his response.

From your description, it seems clear your clients aren'tĭoing that. What you've described is certainly something we've seen before, but it's normally caused by copying and pasting the equation. I'm with Wiris/MathType, and I'll be glad to work with you on a solution. When they choose "Inline," create their equations in Mathtype and close Mathtype to integrate their equation into Word, it places the equation just above the line that they are trying to line up. As computer scientists we are trained to communicate with the dumbest things in the world – computers – so you’d think we’d be able to communicate quite well with people. They have to adapt their product to how Word works, not the other way around. Wiris blaming MS is the tail wagging the dog. Or maybe they are adding their own leading in addition to that used by Word. It sounds like Wiris has a problem with what they have defined as their "baseline" or the space they allow for the Descender. The "Baseline" is what we consider the "line" the text is sitting on:Īnd (naturally) there is also a component that extends below that line, the space allowed for the Descender:Īnd finally there is "leading", the space allowed between lines: Three appear to be relevant to this problem. Wiris (Mathtype's owner) claims that this is a Microsoft issue.Įvery font has several metrics it is designed around. It's like everything is raised a centimeter or so.
